Festival of New Trumpet Music – FONT
New York City, NY
Festival of New Trumpet Music puts the focus on the multitude of ways the trumpet is being sounded, and in the most grassroots sense it brings players and communities together in an embrace of creative culture. In addition to presenting an array of fine music, FONT Music 2008 is commissioning new music from three extraordinary players: Chris DiMeglio, Nabaté Isles, and Reut Regev. Participants will also witness a host of new collaborations amongst trumpeters of varied persuasions. FONT asserts that, “far from an exhaustive survey, these two weeks are but a small sampling from the vast ocean of current practice – how it has changed the world of brass and been changed by it.” Trumpeter, Dave Douglas states, “the sea change here is in the radical, dangerous proposal for the coexistence of all music, a dismantling of all the institutional barriers erected to preserve the separation of genres and communities. The Brantford Jazz Festival presents its first festival at the new Harmony Square in Brantford, Ontario. This event offers an afternoon of free entertainment, and features three stages of continuous music and events, and a special performance by Oliver Jones. The main stage linue-up features the Darcy Hepner Jazz Orchestra, Luis Mario Ochoa and Juno Award winner Hilario Duran, Michael Kaeshammer, The Young Divas and Bill King’s Rhythm Express, and Johannes Linstead. TAC Wangaratta Festival of Jazz

This has become Australia’s premier jazz event and renowned internationally. It takes place two and a half hours from Melbourne in North East Victoria, Australia . Since 1990, the festival has grown to include 90 events and over 350 national and international artists performing each year. The Wangaratta Festival of Jazz also hosts the National Jazz Awards, Youth Jazz Workshops, Masterclasses and events throughout Wangaratta and surrounding wine regions.
